Everyday RED Wine
No judgement on wine only orders. Load up, we get it ;-)
This week's red wine selection:
2018 Agiorgitiko (Omikron) - Greece $9.95
The noblest indigenous variety of Greece, in its fresh version. Deep red in color. Attractive, intense aromas of cherry, red berries and vanilla. Great berry flavors. It is bright with soft tannins, a velvety taste and a very smooth finish. From the Nemea Valley, Corinth, Peloponnese.
2018 Portada Red Lisboa (DFJ Vinhos) - Portugal $9.95
A beautiful red from Portugal, this medium-bodied blend has ripe, juicy berry fruit flavors and soft tannins.
2018 Maremma Mandriolo (Moris Farms) - Italy $11.95
Fresh Sangiovese red berry fruit in a juicy style. It gets some contrasting dark accents from a little Cab, Syrah and Petit Verdot. It's one of those wines that really surprises you. Can it really be this good? Umm - YES.
2019 Les Gourmets Cotes du Forez (Verdier-Logel) - France $16.95
This is 100% Gamay from granite soils, adding a big jolt of minerality to Gamay's standard plump black cherry and dark berry fruit. It's not light, but not heavy, and full of fruit without being "fruity." A great match for anything from roasted chicken to grilled lamb and pretty darn tempting on its own as well. Joyful.
2019 Mon Tout Rouge (Piffaudière) - France $20.95
Pineau d'Aunis is perhaps the most interesting of red grapes from the Loire valley. The nose is explosively fruity, like an herby berry salad. On the palate it’s got beautiful red fruit and a dry finish. Chill in the fridge for ten minutes (not TOO long now), and you’ve got a summer red to gulp down alongside charcuterie, or grilled meats.
