Everyday RED Wine
No judgement on wine only orders. Load up, we get it ;-)
This week's red wine selection:
2018 Montepulciano D'Abruzzo (Pianoro) - Italy $9
Deep ruby red/purple color with vibrant, lingering aromas hinting at red berries, blackberries and black cherries. Clean, nicely generous flavor. Serve with hearty first courses, with game sauces, grilled meats and substantial fish dishes.
2019 Maremma Mandriolo (Moris Farms) - Italy $13
Fresh Sangiovese red berry fruit in a juicy style. It gets some contrasting dark accents from a little Cab, Syrah and Petit Verdot. It's one of those wines that really surprises you. Can it really be this good? Umm - YES.
2019 Bourgueil 'Cuvée Déchainée" (Boucard) - France $16
The name might be quite a mouthful - but thankfully you don't have to pronounce it correctly to drink it! In France this is called a ‘vin de soif ’, or a wine to quench your thirst. Serve lightly-chilled for the full effect: beautiful Cabernet Franc fruit in an exuberant style, with just enough tannin to let you know this is not Beaujolais.
2018 Papa Figos Douro (Ferreira) - Portugal $17
An oaked blend of classic port varieties Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz & Touriga Nacional. A lovely, deep ruby color with an intense aroma dominated by notes of strawberry and raspberry, plum and blueberry, along with resin, cedar and a hint of chocolate, the result of excellent maturation. It is a full-bodied wine, with well-balanced acidity, very good tannins, plenty of lively red fruit flavor & hints of cocoa. The finish is elegant & harmonious. A great food
wine, it’s an ideal partner for all kinds of poultry, meat & cheeses.
2019 Coteau Bourguignons "Les Deux Complices" (Duperray) - France $18
Partners in crime! (roughly translated); As the label implies, two grapes blended in (nearly) equal proportion. Gamay is the light and playful grape of Beaujolais; Pinot the more serious and noble of expressive Red Burgundies. This wine is fruity and forward and just as good sipped at Thanksgiving Dinner as it is gulped the next afternoon with leftovers. In fact, we'll be drinking it all weekend.
2019 Folk Machine Charbono, Suisun Valley (Hobo) - California $24
Typical for the grape, this wine is very dark in color and heavy in the nose, but it doesn’t live up to this expectation. It actually drinks very pretty, almost light. The tannin level is moderate given the way it looks and smells.
2018 Estate Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley (Illahe) - Oregon $25
Aromas of ripe plum, nutmeg, cigar box, and vanilla bean leap out of the glass. The perceivable fruit on the palate, cherry torte, tamarind paste, strawberry jam, anise, nutmeg, and cinnamon spice, help develop a balanced and weighted mouth feel with good acidity and smooth velvet tannin that lingers. Perfect for Thanksgiving!
2017 Langhe Nebbiolo "Perbacco" (Vietti) - Italy $32
Offers up generous fruit along with menthol, spices and hard candy, showing notable intensity while retaining an essentially mid-weight style. Strong, intense and powerful when young, complex and elegant with age. Pair with hearty stew, wild game, roasted red meats and sharp, aged cheeses.
