'False Chanterelles'
an original painting by Maine artist Ingrid Ellison
7x5”, acrylic on cradled panel, 2021
On of a series of Ingrids 2021 paintings, inspired by hikes in the trail networks of Camden Hills. After each successive rain the forest floor and rotting bark bloomed with all sorts of mushrooms from the unassuming dark trumpets carpeting the paths to the fantastically colored corals hidden amongst the leaf mulch.
Her hikes became foraging trips- gathering edible specimens to cook in the kitchen and the not so edible to draw in the studio. A summer filled with gathering and noticing these fruiting bodies born of the hidden mycelium living under the trails, and this series of painting was born.
